Marvel Swaps Release Date for Two Phase 4 Films
With the MCU schedule always growing and changing, it has been announced that Marvel swaps the release date for two of its upcoming Phase 4 films.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been the most dominant entity in the world of films for over a decade and can boast a vast pantheon of films that have been among the most successful in history.
The greatest asset and benefit of the Marvel formula is their ability to be exceptional in their planning, with the most recent developments only adding to that trend.
Although concerning to some Marvel fans, Deadline has recently reported the news that Marvel swaps the release date for two Phase 4 films, with some reasoning given in the initial announcement.
The report specifically states, “Both Disney/ Marvel films are moving along very nicely, we hear, but the Ant-Man sequel is further along in the production process, and it was a simple decision by the studio to swap the release dates.”
The report went on to state that, “Ant-Man 3, previously dated for July 28, 2023, now goes four months earlier on February 17. Captain Marcel sequel The Marvels, previously on that February date, now goes to July 28 next year.”
It is interesting to consider the changes in the schedule, but it isn’t surprising considering the various updates that we’ve received in the development and production of the upcoming Ant-Man: Quantumania, versus the lesser updated Captain Marvel sequel.
Both films should be incredibly important to the overall MCU, with Ant-Man: Quantumania setting up the official Marvel debut of Kang the Conqueror as he is primed to be the main antagonist of the film; with The Marvels set to be the film in which Kamala Khan, Carol Danvers, and Monica Rambeau team-up.
With the swapping of the film’s theatrical debuts, it is assumed that neither is dependent on their chronological place in the MCU timeline, and should both be able to exist separately, but interconnected, to the overarching Marvel Universe.
