Kevin Feige Talks Learning From Marvel’s Fight Against Spoilers
With the tremendous success that has accompanied the vast expansion of the MCU, it seems their greatest enemy is that of the dreaded leak; the architect of it all, Kevin Feige, recently spoke about what they’ve learned from Marvel’s fight against spoilers.
It is no surprise that the Marvel Cinematic Universe has grown into the most successful and persevering entity in the film industry.
Where studios hope against hope that a single film they’ve developed could de well enough to spawn a sequel- or in the greatest of circumstances, a franchise- the MCU has executed an interconnected universe of films in which multiple franchises directly impact and perpetuate the others.
The model is almost perfect; it’s self-sustaining and dependent only on the commitment to the high standard of excellence that has gotten the studio this far.
There is, however, one massive threat to the continued expansion and dominance of the Marvel Universe; the dreaded leak.
It has become the greatest bane in the existence of the MCU, and at this point, it seems unavoidable, uncomfortable, and indefensible; but the MCU has no choice but to attempt to fight this unseen and unheard enemy.
Speaking at the Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness media availability (reported via The Direct) the MCU’s architect, Kevin Feige, talks about what the studio has learned from Marvel’s fight against spoilers, and how the fight has made them stronger.
Feige stated, “The unfortunate truth is you don’t [keep it all under wraps], and therefore you need to make sure that the experience itself works regardless of what has been spoiled or not. We still do as good of a job as we can. I think a lot of people are getting good at not spreading it.”
The producer continued, stating, “But in a lot of ways, No Way Home showed us that it did not lessen the experience. So we will continue to do the best that we can, but the most important thing is still delivering the movie or show that delivers regardless of what you know going in.”
We can only hope that Marvel continues to win this fight against spoilers, and hopefully Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness can win this time around.
