‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ Projected $300 Million Opening to Kick-off Summer Box Office
The highly anticipated entry for the MCU’s lauded phase four is set to dominate financially yet again, as Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is projected to earn a $300 million opening to kick off the summer box office.
Marvel is approaching yet another potential massive winner, as the long-awaited Doctor Strange sequel is projected to dominate the box office once again.
The film is set to pick up where Spider-Man: No Way Home left off- in more ways than one- as the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe entry will likely conclude the MCU’s multiversal narrative that was taken to another level with the record-breaking Peter Parker epic.
It is assumed by many that Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will once again prime Marvel Studios to dominate the box office with a projected $300 million opening that will jump-start the summer box office slate; headlined by the MCU juggernaut.
A brand new report from Deadline stated that the film, “is eyeing a $160-$180M domestic start in what is the widest release ever during the pandemic era at 4,400 theaters, plus another $140M+ overseas.”
If all goes according to these projections, Deadline also states that the $300 Million openings would be the second-best opening of the pandemic era; only following Spider-Man: No Way Home’s $582 million, and coming in ahead of The Batman’s $251 Million.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will- like Marvel’s Phase Four slate- rely on the domestic box office earnings for the majority of its success, as the film won’t be playing in major overseas markets such as Russa, China, and many Middle Eastern countries.
The struggle to adhere to the film to the standards of offshore markets has hindered a lot of the earning potential of Marvel’s Phase Four films, especially with China firmly establishing itself as the biggest film audience on the planet; with the film’s successes speaking to the MCU fandom domestically.
Time will tell if Marvel has another massive box office hit on their hands, but it stands to reason that the film should be an overwhelming success regardless.
