‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ Director Believes Gorr is the MCU’s Best Villain Yet
With the first trailer for the character’s upcoming entry just released, and very few details about its antagonist arriving at fans, Thor: Love and Thunder Director Taika Waititi believe Gorr is the MCU’s best villain yet.
There are few characters who have as special a place in the hearts of Marvel fans as is reserved for Thor.
Having one of the most robust and long-running character arcs of any creation in the entire MCU, Thor stands as Marvel’s most explored and developed creation since its inception over a decade ago.
Although there may be characters who are more compelling, or realistic, none are more endeared to audiences than Chris Hemsworth’s God of Thunder.
That began in the beloved Thor: Ragnarok, a film that acted as a metamorphosis for the character in a story that would prelude his depressive appearance in the final two Infinity Saga films, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.
Taika Waititi, the man responsible for the reconstruction of the character into the current incarnation that fans so adore, is the visionary behind his upcoming fourth film; one that is ready to challenge his growth, and deconstruct the redeemed former heir to the Asgardian throne.
With all of the excitement that surrounds this newest installment and the arrival of Jane Foster’s Mighty Thor, there is maybe no character more anticipated, with less information, than Christian Bales’ MCU debut.
Gorr the God Butcher is among Marvel comics’ most interesting villains, and the Thor: Love and Thunder director believes that that same Gorr will be the MCU’s best villain yet.
Speaking to the Associated Press in a summer movie preview, Taika Waititi discussed the upcoming film, and what sets it apart, in which he let his feelings known about its antagonist.
“It’s a great, really fun, weird little group of heroes,” Waititi stated, “a new team for Thor with Korg, Valkyrie, and The Mighty Thor. And, in my humble opinion, we have probably the best villain that Marvel’s ever had in Christian Bale.”
Although a bold statement, there are few actors as decorated as Bale, and with Gorr already being established in the source material as one of Marvel’s most sympathetic and interesting characters, it should bring about an iconic villain for Thor to combat.
