‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ Debuts to $86 Million Overseas in Two Days
A film that many expected to be a success financially has already surpassed expectation, as Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness debuts with a $86 million opening overseas in just two days.
Few Marvel films can share the level of excitement and anticipation that hovered over the impending Doctor Strange sequel.
It was slated as the MCU project set to bring closure to the multiversal story arc that has been a focal point of Phase Four, picking up where the record-breaking Spider-Man: No Way Home left off.
Now it seems that the film is set to pick up where the last Marvel epic left off in more ways than one, as Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness debuts to a whopping $86 million overseas in just two days.
Yep, you read that right; after we previously reported the film had gained over $36 million in domestic previews, the overseas preview and premiere screenings were a massive success in the overseas market that made the news for all the wrong reasons earlier this week.
With massive markets like China and middle eastern countries refusing to show the picture, Marvel has thus far been a massive hit with other overseas countries.
As reported by the United Business Journal, the official overseas gross was around $85.7 million, with that number leading the global earnings for the newest MCU blockbuster at $121.7 million.
These numbers are rather remarkable considering the weekend is just getting underway, and the film has yet to reach its prime earning potential with Saturday and Sunday screenings likely to be jam-packed.
Overseas markets that were included in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness global screenings included the United Kingdom, Australia, Brazil, and Mexico; with the UK experiencing a $6 million opening day, larger than No Time to Die, and the third-highest of the pandemic era.
It was also unbeatable in many Latin American countries, as the film was number 1 in Brazil, Mexico, Ecuador, Central America, and Peru.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness isn’t a perfect film by any stretch, but it is one of the MCU’s most important; its quick success is a sign of the Marvel Universes’ sheer dominance.
