James Gunn Shares Heartfelt Message With MCU Fans
As filming for the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has come to an end, beloved director James Gunn shares a heartfelt message with MCU fans.
We have said it before, and we’ll continue to say it; there may not be a single director that has had a more underrated influence on the entirety of the current MCU than James Gunn.
The Guardians of the Galaxy was the Marvel Cinematic Universes’ first big risk, and Gunn not only brought then what is now one of their most popular teams but did so in a way that completely defined an entire realm of the Marvel Universe.
It was his work as a visionary that has set the tone for much of what the cosmic realm of the Marvel Universe looks like now; with Gunn’s work being the standard-bearer for the aesthetics of the intergalactic world of the MCU, and his humor that has bled throughout the universe as a whole.
In some form or fashion, there is a little bit of Gunn in everything that the MCU explores beyond the stars, and the Marvel Universe is better because of it.
With the third- and likely final- installment of the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy, the famed director followed up his awesome cast wrap photo in an emotional fashion, as James Gunn shared a heartfelt message with MCU fans.

Captioning a photo of the slate used on the film’s final scene, Gunn wrote, “After over 100 days of shooting & over 3000 shots, this is the slate for the final shot of #GotGVol3, presented to me by the camera crew.”
Gunn continued, “It was an easy shot of Rocke seated, 1st with @seangunn, & then nothing there, & took everything in me not to break down sobbing on the spot.”
In subsequent Tweets, the director elaborated by stating, “The majority of the last ten year of my life has been spent working on & thinking about the Guardians. I still have a long road ahead of me with VFX and editing, but it was still momentous to me.”
“It is somewhat simple to explain to others how much I love this cast & crew. It is more difficult to explain how much I love these characters-” Gunn continued, “That I see them as parts of myself & parts of those I love, & filming them, & writing their words, is a way of expressing that love.”
Gunn concluded, “Again, I’ll still be working with them over the next year until release, but shooting that last shot was a reminder of the warm impermanence of life & love, & how that impermanence makes it so precious, so valuable, & is a good reason to be grateful for what I have right now.”
We cannot wait to see what James Gunn, and the entire Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 teams, come up with for this Seminole entry into the franchise.
