How ‘Doctor Strange 2’ Could Lead to ‘Secret Wars’
Dominating the box office in its third week, the latest MCU adventure could be leading to the next great crossover event, as Doctor Strange 2 could lead to the inevitable Secret Wars.
There were few Marvel films that have had the appeal to viewers as Doctor Strange in the Mutliverse of Madness had; an appeal that led it to be one of the most anticipated films in the studio’s long history.
Bringing legendary director Sam Raimi back into the realm of comic book adaptations, the film has set Marvel’s resident sorcerer on a collision course with the collapsing of the delicate multiverse.
Facing off against unknown alternate realities, Strange partnered with characters like Wong, and the newly arriving America Chavez, to protect the multiverse from the presence of the vengeful Scarlet Witch.
What is even more interesting about the implications from the film is what the overarching MCU could come to; with many believing that Doctor Strange 2 could lead to the long-awaited Secret Wars.
Secret Wars is a Marvel miniseries that has been one of the most beloved by fans and has long been rumored as the perfect storyline to be adapted into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The most popular and engaging version of the storyline was crafted by brilliant comic book icon Jonathan Hickman, in a 2015 series based on the 1984-1985 story of the same name.
The series centered around what is known as an incursion; an event that destroyed the main Marvel comic book timeline of Earth-616 as it collided with the Ultimate Marvel Universe, along with various Marvel timelines, to create Battleworld; a brand new universe that exists on its own.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is the first MCU project to actually use the term incursion, which is crucial to the development of Secret Wars, and it seems as though the film provided a warning for the cataclysmic event to come.
It will be incredibly interesting to see a potential Secret Wars event, in which a Battlworld would be created from the various Marvel film universes that have existed throughout the twenty-year history of the publications adaptations on screen.
