REVIEW: Dark Ages #5
One of the most interesting series from Marvel has seen its main group of heroes add an ally to their ranks, as we review one of the newer addition to Marvel Unlimited Dark Ages #5
If you have been reading the Dark Ages series at all, you have an idea of what writer Tom Taylor and artist Iban Coello have been attempting to create with their most recent run.
Placing some of the Marvel Universe’s most beloved heroes into a post-apocalyptic world where a constant EMP has limited the ability to use all-electric devices creates an interesting premise, but what Taylor has done is truly embrace what makes those ideas work so well.
Dark Ages #5 starts with the main team of heroes honoring the death of Nick Furt, which happened after an attack by the Ghost Raider in the previous issue; although the heroes don’t mourn for long, they are unable to, with action being required if they are to stop Apocalypse.
Taylor, although firmly embracing the horrors of this new world, enters some levity into the situation by bringing in the iconic Deadpool; breathing some much do reprieve from the dangers of this new world, with some well-earned laughs.
On the other side of the situation, there is Apocolypse, who has now imprisoned Tony Stark in order to help him fulfill his play; a plan that has been revealed as his attempt to take control of the Unmaker, and his tremendous power.
Although characters like Beast and Reed Richards have had difficulty, Stark notes that he’s up to the challenge- while still being controlled by Killgrave- and it seems as though he may be just what these villains have needed to be able to fulfill their plan for world domination.
The series concludes with an incredible battle in which some kind of symbiote attacks camp- a symbiote that is both Venom and Carnage- but is no match for the power of this group of heroes.
It is revealed that the host of this symbiote is none other than Miles Morales, who is now the perfect aid for this team of heroes to know just what they’re up against, and maybe, how to stop it.
