How ‘Ms. Marvel’ Origin Connects to Shang-Chi
There was a lot that was uncovered about the history of Kamala Khan’s family, and the power within her that was unlocked when she first put on the bangle; we discuss why the Ms. Marvel origin connects to Shang-Chi.
It was one of the most anticipated Marvel projects and represented what was one of the most exciting debuts of the Marvel Cinematic Universes lauded Phase Four slate.
Kamala Khan felt poised to become a fan favorite in the Marvel Universe, and after three episodes, her Disney+ series has already been some of the most creative, youthful, and vibrant storytelling that the Marvel Universe has ever attempted.
After two episodes that delve deep into the character of Kamala Khan, and the world that she inhabits, the third episode featured answers to questions that cascaded over the series; most notably the origin of the powers within Kamala that manifest from her great grandmother’s bangle.
Audiences were given some answers following the third episode of the series, and although we don’t know everything about the origin of her powers, we do know more about Kamala’s family; and we discuss why those answers connect to another Marvel hero, as the Ms. Marvel origin connects to Shang-Chi.
A film that feels as if it debuted to fans years ago, Shang-Chi was one of the earlier success stories of Phase Four and represented the Marvel Universes’ deep exploration into other dimensions and universes; something that Ms. Marvel has followed suit with.
In Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, it was revealed that Shang-Chi’s mother, Ying Li was from a different dimension, one that granted her bloodline the powers that eventually made their way down to Shang-Chi.
AS it turns out, Kamala’s great grandmother Aisha is also from a different dimension- called the Noor dimension- with her bloodline being exiled to exist in the main Marvel reality; which explains the powers hidden deep within Kamala.
This would explain why, in the flashback featured in Ms. Marvel episode 3, we see a nod to the Ten RIngs; as it would make sense that the MAndarin had answered as to how to travel throughout dimensions, as finding his wife was his greatest missions.
Continuing to explore the lore of both of these characters will be tremendously interesting, and sets the table for the two to be connected in one way or another; as both of their stories unfold.
