Marvel Producer Explains Why Earth-838 in Doctor Strange 2 had no Avengers
It was easily one of the coolest sequences of the entire film, watching some of our favorite heroes confront an alternate reality that features themselves; but it also raises a lot of questions, one recently answered as a Marvel producer discussed why Earth-838 had no Avengers.
The entire promotional campaign for the highly-anticipated Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness had excitement reach a fever pitch when one trailer showed what appeared to be Patrick Stewart reprising his long-held role of Professor Charles Xavier.
Rumors started whirling around the film, with many wondering just what alternate reality Marvel’s resident sorcerer could find himself in, and what characters he may be able to interact with along the way; with many fans hoping that this could bridge the gap between the MCU and past Marvel films.
When the film arrived, it ended up being a little bit of both; with the alternate reality Illuminati making their debut in the film- until very quickly being dispatched, but that’s a whole different question- many Marvel fans began to ask questions about the origin of this specific group of heroes in this universe.
One such question that seemed to irk the collective fandom was aimed at why the Illuminati, and what circumstances made the two universes so vastly different despite very similar heroes; well, that has currently been answered by a man who has a large role behind the scenes of the film.
In an interview reported by Comicbook.com, Marvel producer, Richie Palmer, recently discussed why Earth-838 has no Avengers; and the reasoning behind the Illuminati’s presence over the collective that we have experienced in our MCU.
Palmer stated, “This is a world where Ultron seemed to work the way Tony Stark intended him to work in Age of Ultron. ‘A suit of armor around the world,’ Tony was trying to get the Avengers to retire in Age of Ultron.”
The producer added, “So imagine this is a Wanda that, around that time… This is a world where Tony cracked Ultron, and it worked, and he went, ‘Hey, whoever wants to retire and go home, can.’
“And Then the Illuminati came to rise behind the scenes, pulling the strings, but, I think It’s just a little bit of a better world for whatever reason,” Palmer concluded, “and Wanda was able to go and have the life that she deserved. We as the audience don’t know who the father of those children is in this universe.”
It is fascinating to think that Earth-838 is defined by that version of Tony Stark being successful in the Ultron program, and it begs the biggest question; I wonder what that Tony Stark is like…
