How Gorr Could Foreshadow Knull After ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’
It was something that fans had considered since the character had been announced for the record-setting fourth solo film for Marvel’s resident god, and it appears the hopes could be coming to fruition, as Gorr could have foreshadowed Knull in Thor: Love and Thunder.
He is a character that is undeniably one of the most interesting and sympathetic villains in modern comic book history, as the Jason Aaron crafted Gorr the God Butcher has quickly become a fan-favorite entity in the realm of Thor’s Marvel pantheon.
The character has been so beloved that fans could contain their excitement that none other than legendary actor Christian Bale was tabbed to bring the character to life in what was primed to be one of the best MCU debuts in recent memory.
The rumors and speculation then began to swirl, with fans being tremendously excited about Bale’s eventual performance in the role, accompanied by the reality of just who could arrive based on Gorr’s presence in the MCU.
In the comics, Gorr’s Necrosword is given to him by none other than the villainous Knull, the god of the symbiote; with both the symbiotic class of villains and Gorr, being interconnected by the horrific entity that ruled above them all.
So, with the film now released, did Gorr foreshadow Knull in Thor: Love and Thunder? The answer is, well, possibly?
The origins of the Necrosword are very secretive in the film, with it only explaining that it is an ancient weapon crafted for the very purpose of killing various gods; with the sword corrupting and eventually killing, anyone who wields it.
The sword is changed from the source material, boasting control over shadows rather than control over the symbiote, but allowing the user to create massively scary monsters out of these shadows.
The thing that gives hope to an eventual Knull appearance is that the sword does function in the same way, and in how it is clearly tied to something greater than just the sword itself, leaving room for the villainous king of the symbiote to be adapted as the King of Shadows for the MCU.
