Shuri is the Only Choice to be the New Black Panther
This month’s San Diego Comic-Con saw Marvel Studios finally unveil the first look at the fast approaching Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, with it teasing a new inheritor to the mantle, we discuss why Shuri is the only choice to be the new Black Panther.
It has been among the most interesting productions of any Marvel film ever, as the 30th entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe has had a road to development that is among the most tragic in the more than decade-long history of Marvel Studios massive endeavor.
The movie was not only forced to confront the same issues regarding the COVID-19 pandemic that had plagued and nearly collapsed the entire filmmaking industry, but the movie also saw its lead tragically pass away far too soon before development on the sequel film could begin production.
What is even sadder is that Black Panther: Wakanda Forever was slated to follow one of the greatest successes in Marvel Studio’s history; with the 2016 classic still standing as the only Marvel film to be nominated for the Academy Award for best picture.
The film still carried onward, and if the trailer had any appropriate insight into the story that awaits this November, it is a sequel that will carry the emotional weight and resonance of the journey that it took to eventually reach those theatrical audiences.
The same trailer, however, pointed to the reality that Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will introduce a new inheritor to the mantle that T’Challa has surrendered following his passing; with the trailer ending gon showcasing an obvious successor
Although the specific person that is shown in that final scene isn’t made clear, we are certain that Shuri is the only choice to be the new Black Panther.
There are those who will raise issues with this because of some news released earlier this year about Letitia Wright, but that being excluded from the conversation, how is there any other option for the next Black Panther that makes sense outside of Shuri?
She is the next-in-line to be the ruler of Wakanda, she is the descendent of T’Chakka, she is the younger sister of the last Black Panther, and she has proven capable in ways that not even T’Challa himself was; particularly in her ability to prepare herself, and her genius level intellect.
Shuri is the rightful person to inherit the mantel that her older brother held before his death, and it is narratively the most fulfilling outcome to have her embrace this role that she must now grow into.
