Could Marvel Be Set Up for Big 2023 Delays?
There have been a lot of rumors and speculation about what could possibly get done next year, and what could be pushed back, which leads us to consider the reality that Marvel could be set up for big 2023 delays.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is maybe the biggest endeavor that the film industry as a whole has ever seen attempted, and its success to this point is a testament to how well the entire thing has been meticulously planned.
Where every other studio is hoping and working to develop one successful franchise that audiences connect with and want to see more of, Marvel is orchestrating a franchise of these franchises.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is a collection of franchises that feature characters and narratives that fans have fallen in love with, while also being a part of an interconnected throughline of films that brings these franchises together.
It is the brilliance of this design, but it is also one of the biggest worries, and it is this reliance- and the intricacy of the entire process- that makes it difficult for the whole to overcome the setbacks of one project.
That is what Marvel is seemingly currently faced with, as one film has suffered various issues behind the scenes, and it has now threatened the entire collective; which makes us wonder if Marvel could be set up for big 2023 delays.
Blade was a film slated for a 2023 release, but with the project losing its director, and experiencing some turmoil within its production, it may not begin its filmmaking process until January of that very year.
A process that was supposed to start in October of 2022, then November of 2022, and now won’t begin until January is not the kind of uncertainty that Marvel has planned around; and one then has to believe that the slate will be restructured, or there will be big delays.
If Blade begins its production in January, it likely won’t be ready for a year, which leaves a massive gap in the schedule, which leaves the MCU with two choices; to swap a film in that release date, or to push everything back to more gently sorting out the projects.
