Urban Explorers Stumble Upon ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ Underground Set
Two urban explorers accidentally stumbled upon an abandoned set for Marvel Studios’ upcoming film The Fantastic Four: First Steps.
According to a new report from the Daily Mail, two friends (who have chosen to remain nameless) were exploring a Middleton mine in Derbyshire Dales when they came across something they never expected.
Almost 1,000 feet underground and nearly five miles from where they started, the amateur explorers found a retro blue and white bus, a stage, and a lift car. There was also an abandoned caravan and lighting plan.
The Mine Was Reportedly Used to Film ‘The Fantastic Four’
The explorers claim that “two people who helped support the staff and actors” told them the set was left behind by The Fantastic Four filming. Reportedly, the tunnel was also used for Tom Cruise’s next Mission Impossible movie.
In addition to the vehicles, stage, and filming equipment, the urban explorers also reported a “cabin with a microwave and kettle” and pipes, which were used to pump clean air in.
“‘I usually like to find interesting artifacts, but I’ve not found a film set before,” one of the explorers said.
“It was quite something to see the film set – it wasn’t what we had expected at all.”
‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ Will Hit Theaters Next Year
While the discovery of the Fantastic Four set does not exactly shed new light on the film itself, it does give a glimpse into how studios bring their blockbuster films to life.
Hopefully, we will be able to recognize the mines when the film hits theaters on July 25, 2025.
