Denzel Washington Apologized to Ryan Coogler For Leaking ‘Black Panther 3’
As one of the most decorated actors of all time, Denzel Washington is an old pro when it comes to the Hollywood game. However, even an elder statesman like Washington can make a mistake or two.
Denzel grabbed headlines last month when he revealed that he will join the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) for Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther 3 before he retires.
“I played Othello at 22. I am about to play Othello at 70,” he explained. “After that, I am playing Hannibal. After that, I’ve been talking to Steve McQueen about a film. After that, Ryan Coogler is writing a part for me in the next ‘Black Panther.’ After that, I’m going to do the film ‘Othello,’ After that, I’m going to do King Lear. After that, I’m going to retire.”
Washington’s Comments Were Surprising
Washinton’s declaration was newsworthy for numerous reasons. Obviously, the thought of the Hollywood legend suiting up in the MCU is tantalizing. But beyond that, Washinton’s comments also revealed that Black Panther 3 is in development, something Marvel had not previously announced.
While Marvel revealed much of its upcoming slate this summer, the studio has not publically revealed anything about the future of Black Panther. Washington’s reveal was the kind of Marvel leak that almost never happens.
The Actor Apologized
In a recent interview with Variety, Washington was asked about Black Panther 3. This time, the actor wasn’t giving anything away.
“Ryan’s a genius,” Washington says. “I called him and apologized for talking about the movie, and right there sitting with him was his beautiful wife. He’s still Ryan, humble and full of ideas. Whatever he writes, I’ll read.”
While it remains to be seen what Marvel has in store for the Black Panther franchise, it sounds like Black Panther 3 is coming.
Hopefully, we get an official announcement soon.
