Will Kraven Square Off With Spider Man? One Marvel Star Hopes So
While Kraven the Hunter was not the box office success that Sony was hoping for, star Ariana DeBose still wants to see Kraven and Tom Holland’s Spider-Man square off.
“This is meant to be a standalone film and an origin story, but I do think Kraven deserves that epic showdown with Spider-Man,” she told Variety at the film’s world premiere in New York.
“There’s literally a whole comic about it. Give the people what they want. I think they should do that. And if there’s space for Calypso and Kraven’s journey, then great!”
DeBose’s comments are interesting for numerous reasons.
The End of the Sony Spider-Verse
First, with Kraven’s box office implosion, it looks like the Sony Spider-Man universe is officially ending with a whimper.
After the disasters that were Mobius, Kraven, and Madame Web, and with no future Spidey plans of their own, it sounds like Sony may be willing to sell its Spider-Man rights back to Marvel Studios. If that were to happen, the door for a Kraven vs. Spider-Man matchup would be wide open.
Notably, director Jon Watts originally planned to make Kraven the antagonist in Spider-Man: Now Way Home before the film took a multiversal turn.
Reports have emerged that Marvel never kept Sony from using Spider-Man in their films. If that is true, then the studio made a grave mistake in not pitting Spidey against Kraven already.
Talyor-Johnson Would Be Game
As for Aaron Taylor-Johnson, who plays Kraven in the film, it sounds like he would be thrilled to do battle with Holland’s Spider-Man.
“The last time I spoke to Tom was backstage of his theater production, Romeo and Juliet, and I gotta tell you, he was fantastic,” the actor told Variety. “That guy is a phenomenal actor, and I’d be happy to work with him any day.”
Kraven the Hunter is in theaters now.
