Giancarlo Esposito Teases That His Marvel Journey Is Just Beginning

When Captain America: Brave New World hits theaters on February 14, Giancarlo Esposito will finally make his long-awaited MCU debut.

A late addition to the upcoming film, Esposito will portray Sidewinder, an iconic Captain America adversary and leader of the Serpent Society.

For his part, Esposito has sounded thrilled about joining the MCU.

“I think there’s such great, creative minds in the MCU that have decided to go back in the great cycle of comics to create Seth Voelker and the Serpent Society,” Esposito told Entertainment Weekly.

“I like it because he’s a complicated guy who didn’t start in a nefarious way,” he explained. “He came to this in a different way, which hopefully will unfold. I like it for me because you’ve seen me play certain villainous characters who use their brain, who are great at dictating what to do and how to do it.”

Esposito Teases That Sidewinder Will Return

In a recent interview with On the Red Carpet, Esposito was asked how his character compares to the comic version of Sidewinder. Interestingly, the actor seemed to hint that his MCU story is just beginning.

“Part of the incorporation of Sidewinder’s colors I brought into the costume that I’m wearing,” he explained.

“I’m hoping that it gives them inspiration in movies to come that will allow me to take on more of that serpent persona.”

The Actor Previously Hinted That a Streaming Series Was in the Works

This is not the first time that Esposito has hinted that Marvel has larger plans for Sidewinder. Before the actor’s role in Captain America: Brave New World was revealed, Espositio teased that his MCU journey was only beginning.

As Espositio was a last-minute addition to Brave New World, it remains to be seen how prominent of a role Sidewinder plays in the film. Nevertheless, it sounds like Marvel has bigger plans for the iconic Marvel villain. Perhaps we will even see the Serpent Society form.
