Benedict Cumberbatch Now Says He WILL Appear in ‘Avengers Doomsday’
Benedict Cumberbatch grabbed headlines last week when the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) star revealed that his Doctor Strange would not appear in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday.
According to the actor, Marvel had initially planned for Strange to appear in the fourth Avengers film. That changed, however, when the studio decided to pivot away from its Kang storyline and instead introduce Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom.
Strange’s absence, Cumberbatch explained, was due to “the character not aligning with this part of the story.”
Cumberbatch’s Comments Made Waves
Cumberbatch’s comments quickly gained traction as fans were shocked to learn that Doctor Strange, who seemed poised to lead the Avengers into multiversal battle, would not appear in Doomsday.
Just days after his comments went viral, however, Cumberbatch has walked them back.
“I Got That Wrong”
In a recent interview with Business Insider, the actor revealed that he had been mistaken.
“I got that wrong. I am in the next one,” he said.
When reminded that Marvel actors have often played coy about their upcoming roles, Cumberbatch grinned and simply answered, “Don’t ever believe anything I say.”
While it would be hard to imagine Doctor Strange not showing up for the events of Avengers: Doomsday, it is possible that Marvel’s overarching story will somehow keep the former Sorcerer Supreme away until Avengers: Secret Wars.
Nevertheless, Cumberbatch now says he will appear in Doomsday. For now, all Marvel fans can do is believe him.
