Andrew Garfield Reveals What It Would Take to Get Him to Return as Spider-Man
After a disappointing ending to his own The Amazing Spider-Man franchise, Andrew Garfield made his triumphant return as Peter Parker in 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Thanks to the mysterious Marvel multiverse, Garfield’s hero was able to team up with his Spider-Men brethren, Tom Holland and Tobey Maguire, for the ultimate web-slinger movie.

Not only did No Way Home gross an astounding $1.9 billion at a box office still recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic, but Garfield’s Peter Parker got a shot at redemption and won over fans in a way that eluded him during the Amazing Spider-Man films.
Will Garfield Suit Up as Spider-Man Again?
With the Marvel multiverse set to collide once again for the events of Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, fans have held out hope that Garfield (and Macguire) will suit up again.

During a recent appearance at Middle East Film & Comic Con (via Entertainment Tonight), Garfield admitted that he was open to playing Spider-Man again, but he had one stipulation.

“It would have to be very weird,” Garfield said. “I would like to do something very strange. Something very unique, and offbeat and surprising, kind of like the creative freedom they have with the animated ‘Spider-Verse’ movies.”
A Familiar Refrain
Garfield’s latest comments echo his previous statements about his willingness to return to the MCU.
“For sure, I would 100% come back if it was the right thing, if it’s additive to the culture, if there’s a great concept or something that hasn’t been done before that’s unique and odd and exciting and that you can sink your teeth into,” Garfield told Esquire last year.

“I love that character, and it brings joy. If part of what I bring is joy, then I’m joyful in return.”
By the sound of things, Garfield is only interested in playing Spider-Man again if the story is unique. Hopefully, like No Way Home, Kevin Feige and his team can craft a story that not only brings Garfield’s character back to the MCU but also advances his narrative in a meaningful way.
