The Voice of H.E.R.B.I.E. in ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ Has Finally Been Revealed
After years of waiting for Marvel’s First Family to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), fans will finally get their wish when The Fantastic Four: First Steps hits theaters later this year.
Under the watchful eye of director Matt Shakman, First Steps will introduce audiences to the MCU’s Fantastic Four: Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic (Pedro Pascal), Sue Storm/The Invisible Woman (Vanessa Kirby), Johnny Storm/the Human Torch (Joseph Quinn), and Ben Grimm/The Thing (Ebon Moss-Bachrach).

While much attention has (understandably) been paid to the upcoming film’s titular team, the Four are not the only beloved characters making their MCU debut in First Steps.
H.E.R.B.I.E. Is Coming
As shown in the Fantastic Four’s first trailer, H.E.R.B.I.E. will also appear in First Steps. The fan-favorite robot, created by Reed Richards, has been a staple of Fantastic Four comics for decades. Now, he will get his turn to shine in the MCU.

In a recent interview with Empire, Fantastic Four director Matt Shakman explained the importance of H.E.R.B.I.E. to the film.
“He’s absolutely as important and as alive as any other member of the cast,” he explained. “He’s sometimes a slightly put-upon robot, but he is definitely a member of the family. He’s just so charming and adorable.”
The Robot Will Play a Central Role in the Film
According to Shakman, H.E.R.B.I.E. will not be contained to the Baxter Building in First Steps.

“Reed’s right hand in the lab, capable of assisting him on any sort of experiment, always by his side, whether in New York City or out in space.”
To bring H.E.R.B.I.E. to life, Marvel turned to veteran voice actor Matthew Wood. Perhaps best known for his work as General Grevious in the Star Wars franchise, Wood was able to endow H.E.R.B.I.E. with personality.

“He’s charming, he’s funny — but he also will break your heart,” Shakman explained.. “Which I hope is emblematic of the movie.”
The Fantastic Four: First Steps will hit theaters on July 25.
