Ryan Coogler Confirms ‘Black Panther 3’ Is His Next Film

While fans have long known that Black Panther 3 was officially in development, official updates on the film have been few and far between.

Unlike traditional Marvel announcements, the studio’s plans for Black Panther 3 were actually revealed by Hollywood legend Denzel Washington, who let it slip that he would be joining the franchise for its third installment.

“I played Othello at 22. I am about to play Othello at 70,” explained. “After that, I am playing Hannibal. After that, I’ve been talking to Steve McQueen about a film. Then, after that, Ryan Coogler is writing a part for me in the next ‘Black Panther.’ After that, I’m going to do the film ‘Othello,’ After that, I’m going to do King Lear. After that, I’m going to retire.”

Marvel Eventually Confirmed the Film Was in Development

After Washington’s revelation, Marvel confirmed that Black Panther 3 was in the works.

Later, Ryan Coogler would explain that the film had actually been delayed to facilitate his work on Sinners.

Now, it sounds like Coogler is ready to return to Wakanda.

“We’re Working Hard on It”

At Deadline’s Contenders Film: Los Angeles, reporter Mike Fleming Jr. asked Coogler if Black Panther 3 was his “next movie.” Coogler confirmed that it was.

“If it was anybody but you, I would say, ‘I can neither confirm or deny,’” teased Coogler. “But we’re working on it hard. … Yeah, it’s the next movie.”

While Marvel has not announced when Black Panther 3 will hit theaters, the timeline suggests 2028 as the earliest possible debut.
