Kevin Feige Sheds Light on a Post-‘Secret Wars’ Marvel Cinematic Universe

The biggest question hanging over the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is what Kevin Feige and his team have planned after Avengers: Secret Wars.

For years now, rumors have circulated that Avengers: Secret Wars will allow a reset of the MCU, streamlining storytelling and allowing Marvel to recast the franchise’s biggest heroes.

Over the last several years, the complexity of the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been identified as the franchise’s biggest problem.

Marvel Has Looked to Simplify Things

Already, Marvel has begun separating its television series from the broader MCU, pivoting to standalone stories that can be enjoyed without having seen the latest blockbuster.

Now, Kevin Feige has shed light on how the theatrical films will move forward.

Feige Promises a “Single Universe”

During a recent interview in Shanghai, Feige pointed to Avengers: Secret Wars as a pivot point for the MCU going forward.

“It will establish a streamlined, simplified, single universe that’s easier for audiences to follow,” he said. “Some aspects will feel familiar. But many, many things will be entirely new.”

Based on everything we know, it sounds like Avengers: Secret Wars will serve as the ending point for some. It will also, however, pave the way for others to begin.

Surveying the landscape, it seems that Avengers: Secret Wars will bring the Fantastic Four into the main timeline, launch the X-Men, and perhaps spell the end for the veteran Avengers.

That said, Marvel has hinted that more Spider-Man and Thor films may be in the cards.

How exactly Marvel walks that tightrope remains to be seen.
