Marvel’s Morbius Among Sony Pictures Films Delayed Until 2021
We’ll have to wait until 2021 to see Marvel’s Morbius.
On Monday evening, Variety reported that Sony pictures had delayed a full slate of films until 2021:
Jason Reitman’s “Ghostbusters: Afterlife” has moved from July 10, 2020, to March 5, 2021; Jared Leto’s “Morbius” has been pushed back from July 31, 2020, to March 19, 2021; Tom Holland-starring video game adaptation “Uncharted” went from March 5, 2021, to Oct. 8, 2021; and “Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway” moved from Aug. 7, 2020, to Jan. 15, 2021. An untitled Sony/Marvel movie was also delayed from an original Oct. 8, 2021 date and is now undated.
We previously reported on Morbius, starring Jared Leto as the titular character, on MickeyBlog.com:
ScreenRant.com pointed out that the new debut date gives Morbius some company:
Although this delay is due to factors beyond Sony’s control, the new release date for Morbius does give it some competition right away. The film is currently slated to open against the next Paranormal Activity film and Alicia Vikander’s Tomb Raider 2. Both franchises have proven to be successful before, and the mixture of a horror film and another action movie isn’t ideal. By comparison, Morbius’ biggest competition with its original release date was the comedy Barb and Star Go To Vista Del Mar, as well as the second weekend of Christopher Nolan’s Tenet.
However, we’ll have to wait a while more to find out if this vampire will rule the night.
