New Documentary “Marvel’s Behind the Mask” Arriving on Disney+
Marvel’s Behind the Mask, a brand new documentary special about the secret identity of the characters behind the world’s most beloved superheroes, will be available for streaming on Disney+ beginning February 12th, 2021.
Unsurprisingly with the number of people who tuned-in for the WandaVision premiere, Marvel Studios is planning more Disney+ content exploring the mythology behind the most popular characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
What’s the Marvel’s Behind the Mask Documentary?
According to the announcement on the official Marvel website, the documentary will explore how Marvel Comics’ heroes with secret identities have been depicted throughout the comic book publisher’s eight decade history.
Marvel promises plenty of guest stars, including artists and writers who have contributed to the depiction of Marvel Comics’ superheroes like Miles Morales (Spider-Man), Kamala Khan (Ms. Marvel), and Luke Cage (Power Man). Although the company has only released a few details so far, it seems like the documentary will focus on how the heroes have had effect on media and pop culture at large.
The press release also highlights the fact that the documentary will explore the way Marvel characters have been used to examine the evolving understanding of equal rights, and how the Marvel heroes have come to reflect the world outside our window.
Marvel’s Behind the Mask is directed by Disney-alum Michael Jacobs (Quiz Show, Dinosaurs, Boy Meets World). The documentary special is produced for Tarmac Creative and Strike Anywhere by Chris Gary and Ryan Simon, with Marvel Executive Producers Joe Quesada, Shane Rahmani, Stephen Wacker, John Cerilli, Harry Go, and Sarah Amos.
We’re just going to go ahead and assume that you’ve already had a chance to catch the first couple episodes of WandaVision by now. So if you cannot wait for Marvel’s Behind the Mask, you could consider watching an episode of the Marvel’s 616 series, or you could catch up with your favorite MCU superheroes thanks to the recently released Marvel Studios: Legends.
Before WandaVision, Marvel dropped a new Legends episode about Wanda and Vision to remind fans about what happened to the MCU couple leading up to Avengers: Endgame.
