RUMOR: Deadpool Animated Series Being Developed for Hulu
According to a rumor at the site Bubbleblabber, an animated series based on the Marvel Comics character Deadpool – also variously known as Wade Wilson, the Merc with a Mouth, and the Regeneratin’ Degenerate – is currently in development for Hulu. And if words were wishes and wishes were words, this show would already be a definite thing, but sometimes we only get some of what we want: fingers crossed on this rumor!
Not to be confused with…
If you don’t know Deadpool from the panels of Marvel Comics, it’s unlikely that you have been unable to avoid his big-screen incarnation, played by Ryan Reynolds. Never fear, Marvel Blog True Believers: you’ll be seeing this version of Mr. Pool on the big screen again before too much longer!
Deadpool has previously appeared in animation, having been voiced by Nolan North in several different appearances. This includes a guest starring role on a season two episode of Ultimate Spider-Man, appearances as Deadpool in multiple video games like Ultimate Marvel vs. CAPCOM 3, Marvel Heroes, and Lego Marvel Super Heroes, and in the direct-to-DVD movie Hulk Versus.
And you don’t want to confuse this rumored project with a previous adult animation adaptation of Deadpool that was once in development for FX, with Donald Glover attached.
Glover’s project was cancelled in 2018 (and at the time, Glover Tweeted a 15-page mock script for the series, featuring a story that saw the Merc with a Mouth chasing after an endangered albino Rhino and perhaps implying that Glover was not so pleased with the fact that the project would not come to fruition – we feel ya, Gambino).
Marvel Animation at Hulu
An adult animated series at Hulu that’s inspired by Marvel Comics? It may not be as abstract as you think!
In fact, you’ll get a chance to see exactly what that might look like when Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K. makes its streaming debut on Hulu on May 21st, 2021.
Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K. was originally one of four animated Marvel shows that were geared towards adults which were meant to appear on Hulu, with a subsequent crossover between the shows planned called The Offenders. However, when Marvel TV was absorbed into Marvel Studios, most of those shows were cancelled.
Our Deadpool Animated Universe
In addition to the upcoming Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K. (and the potential Deadpool show) on Hulu, fans of the animated Marvel Universe can also look forward to What If…?, premiering on Disney+ later this year.
