A Team of Directors
As you might expect for the team that’s been charged with directing such a high-profile sequel, each of the directors has some serious behind-the-scenes experience which qualifies them for the job.
1. Joaquim Dos Santos
Dos Santos has a lot of experience with animation, including work on Nicklodeon’s The Legend of Korra, DreamWorks Animation’s Voltron: Legendary Defender, and Warner Brothers’ Teen Titans, according to his Sony Pictures Animation biography.
Plus, he’s following 666 people on Twitter, so hey, maybe HE can tell us where to find Mephisto in the Marvel Cinematic Universe!
A little trip down memory lane. This is a small fight sequence I story boarded between Su and Kuvira. It’s short but packs a 🤜. I must admit I do miss staging these fights. What a fantastic show to be a part of. #korra #Lok #legendofkorra #storyboard #kuvira #sulinbeifong pic.twitter.com/OEEsGX8QyW

2. Kemp Powers
Powers has a resume that includes a wide array of impressive projects, including Star Trek: Discovery and Pixar’s Soul.
For fans who want to learn more about Powers’ impressive resume, read this profile by Elina Shatkin in LAist: “How LAist Alumnus Kemp Powers Wrote Two Of 2020’s Best Movies — ‘Soul’ And ‘One Night In Miami’.”
3. Justin K. Thompson
And Thompson previously worked as a Production Designer for the first Into the Spider-Verse movie, meaning he’s ideally suited for navigating the streets of Spidey’s New York City, no matter what dimension he might find himself in.
In addition to his work at Sony Animation, Thompson has worked as a production designer and visual development artist on Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and The Powerpuff Girls movie, among others.
So Many Spiders, Man
It makes sense that you’d need multiple directors for the sequel to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. After all, six Spider-People is a lot of web-slinging to track!
While everyone has their favorites, I’m pretty partial to Spider-Ham. He’s perfectly voiced by John Mullaney and he just wants to eat a hog dog (try not to think about those implications).
Swinging to Theaters in 2022
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2 is scheduled to arrive in theaters in October 2022, but in the meantime, you can bet that we’ve got some serious Spidey speculation to get through – and we need your help, Marvel Blog True Believers!
Give us a shout in the comment section and let us know what versions of Spider-Man you hope to see when the movie arrives in theaters, whether they’re incarnations we’ve seen already in the Spider-Verse or other all-new, all-different versions of the character!
