Marvel + Graphix
The Scholastic Books imprint, Graphix, produces the publisher’s middle-grade graphic novels, and they’re behind many of the best-selling comics to be released in the past few years, including graphic novel adaptations of Ann M. Martin’s Baby-Sitters Club books by cartoonists like Gale Galligan (Logan Likes Mary Ann) and Gabriela Epstein (Claudia and the New Girl), and the latest bestseller by Raina Telgemeier (who is already a Marvel Manga writer, penning X-Men: The Misfits with Dave Roman, and artist Anzu in 2009).
With such heavy hitters on the Scholastic roster, it’s no wonder that Graphix and Marvel Comics have found a way to work together! And at Marvel Blog, we’re here for it!
Miles Morales: Shock Waves
The original graphic novel Miles Morales: Shock Waves will be published on June 1st by Graphix Books.
Shock Waves will follow the eponymous Spider-Man as he faces all kinds of problems (as is befitting a Spider-Person).
Judging by the book trailer, Miles is working on a fundraiser for those affected by an earthquake in his mom’s birthplace of Puerto Rico when something goes awry… and when we say “awry,” we mean “supervillain awry”!
While the trailer doesn’t give us many more details than that, the glimpse of the amazing art and interesting story is more than enough to get us on-board. Plus, the title seems like a delicious reference to the unique Spider-Powers possessed by Miles, don’t you agree, Marvel Blog True Believers?
Reading Year Round
May is “Get Caught Reading Month,” so the June 1st publication date of Miles Morales: Shock Waves will just miss the event!
However, you can spend at least some of your May reading Shock Waves thanks to the fact that Scholastic has thoughtfully posted a PDF giving readers a preview of the graphic novel which you can read right now. And separately, Marvel posted another 12 pages of the new middle-grade graphic novel on its website, which you can read here.
Will you be picking up the full version of Miles Morales: Shock Waves when it arrives in June? We’re waiting to hear from you, Marvel Blog True Believers!
