Marvel Comics Teases “Lights Out” in Dark Ages Event
In a series of Tweets beginning on Friday, June 18th, 2021, the official Marvel Entertainment Twitter account teased an upcoming Marvel Comics event. Featuring art by Ryan Stegman, the first round of enigmatic messages included only images of legendary characters like Spider-Man, Iron Man, and Venom, each with the message, “Who were you when the lights went out?”

Turn Off the Dark Ages
In addition to the images and the message, “Who were you when the lights went out,” little information was available about the event at first, which is scheduled for release beginning in September 2021.
But later that day, Marvel revealed the source of the hubbub: the upcoming Marvel’s “Dark Ages” event, which will be written by Tom Taylor and feature art by Iban Coello (no word on the rest of the creative team yet).
Taylor said about the event:
Marvel’s DARK AGES is a story unlike any we’ve told before. And it all begins with the shocking revelation of what the Watcher has been watching for. A danger older than the Earth threatens everything. And for once, the heroes who have saved the planet time and again find themselves almost completely powerless in the face of it.
The event also teases that the heroes of the Marvel Universe will find themselves fighting side by side… only to be defeated! Could this be the 616’s darkest hour?
An Event for All Seasons
It is not too surprising that Marvel Comics is unveiling an upcoming event, as next week is the release of the final issue of the Heroes Reborn event. This story saw Blade waking up in a Brave New-ish 52-ish World, where the Avengers had never existed and Earth was instead protected by a team of brutes known as the Squadron Supreme.
However, just what the six issue September event might be remains to be seen! Will it be an independent series, or will it take place within other ongoing titles?
One thing’s for sure: Stegman’s art has always been amazing when it comes to the Spidey-fam, so the fact that he’s providing the teasers for an event that incorporates Spidey and Venom in a major way is seriously scintillating, Marvel Blog True Believers!
