RUMOR: Will WILLEM DAFOE Return as Green Goblin?
An article posted to Heroic Hollywood suggests that Willem Dafoe could return as the Green Goblin, A.K.A. Norman Osborne, in the upcoming third movie in the Tom Holland Spider-Man trilogy, Spider-Man 3: No Way Home.
Sinister Six
This is just the latest instance of a rumored return for one of the antagonists from the previous Spider-Man movies, which starred Tobey Maguire (also rumored to return) and Andrew Garfield (who swears he isn’t returning… but is he).
So far, we have more or less had Alfred Molina confirm that he will be reprising the role of Doctor Octopus from Spider-Man 2 (2004).
And it seems as though Jamie Foxx, who played Electro in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014), may be returning as well.
Could all of these villains be joining together to form a live-action Sinister Six? This antagonistic team has taunted Peter Parker in the Marvel Comics for decades, but we’ve yet to see them appear on-screen… at least in live action, anyway!
Green Goblin Enters the Spider-Verse
In 2018’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, we got to see six Spideys face off against a team of supervillains: Tombstone, Prowler, Scorpion, Goblin, Kingpin, and of course, Doc Ock, who is the character who originally organizes the team in the comics.
So who could round out the Sinister Six in No Way Home?
Well, Scorpion (Michael Mando) and Vulture (Michael Keaton) were both introduced in Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017), and then, we see them incarcerated together at the same prison in that movie’s mid-credits sequence.
And there are still other villains to pull from previous Spider-Man movies, including Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal), who appeared to die in Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019), but we really don’t know. The thing is, he appeared to die several times in that movie, but then there’s the final scene in which Mysterio mysteriously CGIed his suit for the news leak about Spider-Man’s secret identity. So, who knows if it really stuck?
Whatever antagonists are in store for Spidey when No Way Home arrives in December 2021, we’re sure J. Jonah Jameson (J.K. Simmons) will be there to blame it on Spidey… And we just can’t wait! What do you think, Marvel Blog True Believers?
