SHE-HULK: Jen Walters SMASH Puny Fourth Wall!
An article on The Direct reports that the upcoming She-Hulk series on Disney+ will feature Jen Walters (Tatiana Maslany) breaking the fourth wall! This means that the metafictional elements which we were introduced to in WandaVision were just the beginning.
She-Hulk’s Meta History
The She-Hulk comics have a long history of breaking the fourth wall, with the run written by John Byrne being the origin of her metafictional antics (in one issue, she even tore through the pages of the book to get to the end faster).
There are plenty of other Marvel Characters who lean on or even break the fourth wall, including Deadpool, Gwenpool, and Howard the Duck (who I theorize may make an appearance in She-Hulk). However, She-Hulk was the first!
Learn more about She-Hulk’s metafiction history be checking out the article about the Disney+ She-Hulk series on the Real Stan Lee’s personal website.

This just-announced San Diego Comic-Con@Home panel will feature my wife, Avery Kaplan, as a panelist! Moderated by Gregory Paul Silber, this panel will also feature comic book legends like Ann Nocenti, Marc Guggenheim, and Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou. If you’re curious to learn more about how metafiction in comics works, you’ll definitely want to tune in when the panel is released on YouTube later this month!
Plus, I have it on good authority that Marvel Blog True Believers may find themselves thrilled by a certain special appearance during the panel…
She-Hulk is Coming!
She-Hulk will be a half-hour sit-com that will arrive on Disney+ in 2022. And after returning to Orphan Black recently, it’s clear Marvel Studios chose the right actress for the job; she will kick some serious butt as the smashing She-Hulk.
Check it out for yourself with this exclusive clip of Maslany on Orphan Black from Entertainment Tonight:
Along with the rumor that the show will break the fourth wall, another rumor suggests that Megan Thee Stallion will be appearing in the series… and playing herself! This does seem to support the meta angle, doesn’t it? Doubly so because the singer is known for her performances that blur the line between reality and fiction!
Let us know what case you’re most excited to see when She-Hulk arrives for streaming next year!
