REVIEW: Shocking Developments in Extreme Carnage: Scream #1
In Extreme Carnage: Scream #1 by Clay McLeod Chapman, Chris Mooneyham, Marcio Menyz, and Travis Lanham, with a main cover by Skan, we get up close and personal with the eponymous symbiote! This story focuses on one of five offspring spawned by Venom, Scream, who has bonded with host Andi Benton.
Amazing Layouts
First and foremost, shout-out to Extreme Carnage: Scream #1 for having some incredible layouts! In the publishing industry, one of the unique aspects of the comics medium is the way that the panels are laid out on the page, and that’s known as a page layout.
The placement of panels in a page layout can improve the story for the reader in many different ways: it can make it easier to follow the narrative, or it can be used to convey additional information (for example, slanted panel shapes could suggest the characters are moving at a great speed).
Extreme Carnage: Scream #1 is filled with the kinds of pages that will make you gasp when you turn to them! Working flawlessly in tandem with the sound effects, these pages will leave you literally gasping as you flip through them – at least that’s what happened to me!
A Shocking Conclusion
I was also completely shocked by the conclusion of this issue!
I am holding out hope that the conclusion of Extreme Carnage: Scream #1 is something of a fake-out, but regardless of whether or not what seems to have happened in this issue really happened or not, I have become completely invested in this story!
I am looking forward to seeing how the elements from this story work with the pieces from Extreme Carnage: Alpha, and considering Steve Orlando and Alyssa Wong, who are two of my favorite Marvel Comics writers, are listed as part of the Symbiote Hive, I am on the edge of my symbiote waiting to figure out what comes next!
More Event Madness
Between Heroes Reborn and War of the Bounty Hunters, Marvel Comics has been excelling at their crossover events lately, and I’m pleased to report that Extreme Carnage is shaping up to be another interesting entry!
