Michaela Coel Joins BLACK PANTHER: WAKANDA FOREVER
In an article posted on Variety on Wednesday, July 21st, 2021, Variety reported that Michaela Coel will be joining the upcoming sequel to 2018’s Black Panther, which will be titled Black Panther 2: Wakanda Forever.
While it is not currently clear what role Coel will be playing in Wakanda Forever, she was recently honored with four Emmy Award nominations for I May Destroy You, which she wrote, produced, directed, and starred in.
Wakanda Forever!
The sequel will be the first Black Panther movie without Chadwick Boseman.
The actor died in August 2020, after a clandestine battle against colon cancer.
Viewers will still get one more chance to see Boseman play the role of T’Challa, however, as he recorded lines for the character’s part in an upcoming episode of the animated Marvel’s What If…?, in an episode that asks, “What if T’Challa had become Star-Lord?”
The film will also feature the return of Lupita Nyong’o as Nakia. In an interview, Nyong’o said that Black Panther 2 feels “emotionally correct” in light of the passing of Boseman.
Return to Wakanda
In addition to the upcoming sequel, there is also a Disney+ series set in Wakanda on the way. According to an earlier report, Danai Gurira will be reprising the role of Okoye, general of the Dora Milaje, the elite cadre of women guards who are charged with protecting the Wakandan royal family.
Recently, we saw another one of the Dora Milaje, Ayo (Florence Kasumba), when she appeared in several episodes of Captain America and the Winter Soldier. Hopefully, we’ll get to see both character share the screen again on Disney+ soon!
