Young Readers Line Launches with Black Panther Legends
In a post made to the official Marvel website on Thursday, July 22nd, 2021, a new line of Young Readers books, called “Marvels Legends,” will debut with Black Panther Legends by Tochi Onyebuchi (Riot Baby) and Setor Fiadzigbey (Bunheads). The miniseries, which will arrive at your local comic shop (LCS) in October, will be targeted at middle grade readers.
Two Brothers
According to a statement made by Lauren Bisom, Marvel senior editor, to SYFY, the comics are meant to be accessible to both new, young readers and seasoned older readers alike. To this end, Bisom told SYFY that the art in Black Panther Legends would have a singular style among the Marvel Comics offerings, with an aesthetic that falls somewhere between standard superhero sequential art and a storybook.
The story will follow young T’Challa and Hunter, two brothers who are growing up in Wakanda as members of the Royal Family. Someday, one of them will be King… but when an unexpected tragedy takes place, it soon becomes clear which one of the two brothers will one day be taking his place on the throne of Wakanda.
Black Panther Legends
In addition to revealing the secret history of T’Challa, the series will also see the young Avenger-to-be rubbing elbows with some of the other members of the Marvel Universe.
For example, we’ll see T’Challa meet the omega mutant Ororo Munroe when she is a teenager, before she took the mantle of Storm – long before they got married in the comics.
And at another point, the series will reveal the first time T’Challa invites the Fantastic 4 to visit Wakanda! Do you think The Thing will bring a nice brisket along to celebrate? It seems like I read something about that in X-Men #1 recently…
