They Both Love Castles
Sometimes the reason two people fight is that they’re just too similar, and that may well be the case between Kang and Doom. You may not realize this, but Doom believes that everything he does is for the good of humanity!
In Doomwar #3 by Jonathan Maberry, Scot George Eaton, and Cory Petit, Doom had a vision that placed him face to face with a panther deity.
The panther deity, who would destroy Doom if he displayed any greed, forced Doom to explain his plans. According to Doom, he has looked at thousands of possible futures, and in the only one that humanity survives and flourishes, Doom is in command. As such, Doom’s attempts to rule the world are synonymous with the only opportunity to save humanity.
This sounds very similar to what He Who Remains (Jonathan Majors), a variant of Kang the Conqueror, said to our heroes about the Sacred Timeline in the season finale of Loki, doesn’t it?
Kang Is Coming
Kang the Conqueror #1 will arrive at your local comic shop on August 18th, 2021. This miniseries is written by Collin Kelly and Jackson Lanzing, with colors by colors by Espen Grundetjern, art by Carlos Magno, and letters by VC’s Joe Caramagna, the series may help shed some light on the connection between Kang and the Time Variance Authority… after all, the variant cover by Peach Momoko even shows the trio of Time-Keeper robots exposed by Sylvie in the fourth episode of Loki.
You can learn more about this new series in a Nerdist exclusive interview with Kelly and Lanzing, in which Kelly told interviewer
Issue one is Kang’s proper origin, and issues two through five are Kang’s life story. We are hoping to, by the end of issue five, take you through the entirety of King’s life. So that any Kang story that you have read over the course of the last several decades, you can look at it and see where it fits inside the secret history of Kang the Conqueror, and the personal story he’s been through.
Check out some of the preview pages below:
In addition to learning more about the history of Kang in this series, Lanzing also promises that we will see a lot more of Ravonna:
And then certainly once we got to issue three and four, we started digging deeper and deeper into [Kang’s love interest] Ravonna Renslayer. Ravonna became our entire backbone. She’s the key to the book in looking at what she means to Kang, and what he needs out of her. You start to see the personal and rather tragic story of a guy who cannot let go of love, and who cannot let go of loss. And who thinks that it’s the only thing that’s going to save him, when in fact it is in many ways, it’s the thing that dooms him.
