LOKI 702: What Went Into the Making of Miss Minutes
In a video posted to the Marvel Entertainment YouTube channel on Wednesday, July 28th, 2021, the secrets that went into designing Miss Minutes were revealed! The hologram character, who was voiced by the legendary Tara Strong, appeared in several episodes of Marvel Studios’ Loki.
Although we are sure that we are just preaching to the choir here, Marvel Blog Untrue Believers, but if the TVA taught us anything, it’s that unless you are a Loki, sticking to the rule book is a good idea, especially when Miss Minutes is always watching – we don’t want to be sent to The Void, after all… So let’s find out what went into making this adorable new character who is giving Grogu a run for his money.
Miss Minutes
Host Lorraine Cink spoke with VFX Supervisor Brad Parker on the video posted to the Marvel Entertainment YouTube channel. Cink noted that there were plenty of new characters introduced by Loki, including the trio of Time-Keepers, but she said that Miss Minutes held a special place in her heart (same, Lorraine, same).
Parker said that the VFX team made an effort to give Miss Minutes a “retro animated style,” making her appear almost hand-drawn, but that was counterbalanced with the 3D effects that made her look like a futuristic hologram.
Parker also noted that the details of the aesthetic – including the way Miss Minutes glows, and the thin lines that run through her body – had to be exhaustively tested in order to make sure they came out just right.
Parker said that working with real actors and animated characters at the same time can be a complicated process.
In order to ensure that the actors know where they are supposed to be looking while performing alongside an animated character, the crew will often use a tennis ball on a stick on set. However, because of the unique nature of Miss Minutes, a LED light was used on-set, providing the glow that we all associate with the presence of the diminutive TVA mascot.
You can learn even more about what went into making Miss Minutes (as well as what went into the making of the Time-Keepers) by watching the whole video, included above!
