WHAT IF…? Director Bryan Andrews on Chadwick Boseman
In a press conference with several media outlets on Sunday, August 1st, 2021, Marvel’s What If…? series director Bryan Andrews remarked on Chadwick Boseman’s excitement at taking part in the highly anticipated animated series, the first episode of which arrives for streaming on Disney+ on August 11th, 2021.

The animated anthology series on Disney+ will deliver a series of stories that dare to ask “What if…?” Each episode will be a window into a different parallel timeline, showing viewers how things would have been different in the Marvel Cinematic Universe if certain variables had been tweaked!
One example is the episode that will serve as Boseman’s final appearance in the MCU: “What if… T’Challa had become Star-Lord?”

According to Andrews, Boseman was excited to play this version of the Wakandan King, because unlike the version we got to know onscreen in Captain America: Civil War, Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame, this incarnation of T’Challa is unburdened by royal responsibility.
“He could lighten it up, get a little more joke-y with it,” explained Andrews to Insider. Considering it looks as though T’Challa will be interacting with Howard the Duck in his episode of What If…?, this is especially exciting, Marvel Blog True Believers!

Long Live the King
Viewers are awaiting Boseman’s final appearance in the MCU. The actor passed away in August 2020 after a clandestine battle against cancer, and is greatly missed by his fans and co-stars.
