Variant Alert: STAR TOURS on Bounty Hunters #15
The most devoted of Marvel Blog True Believers already know that Bounty Hunters #15, one of the tie-in books in the ongoing Star Wars: War of the Bounty Hunters crossover event from Marvel Comics, is an excellent read. But we would be remiss if we didn’t spotlight one of the covers in the Lucasfilm 50th Anniversary series of variants: a Star Tours variant by Chris Sprouse, Karl Story, and Neeraj Menon!
Star Tours? What Are YOU Doing Here?
Star Tours is an attraction at Tomorrowland in Disneyland (and at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Tokyo Disneyland, and Disneyland Paris).
The original version, which is featured on the cover, opened on January 9th, 1987 at Disneyland. It featured an opening show that centered on C-3PO (Anthony Daniels) and R2-D2 as they performed work on the Starspeeder 3000, and while this opening show continues to this day, it has since been updated with new material from a galaxy far, far away.
As has the ride itself. Now, in Star Tours: The Journey Continues, riders are treated to a randomized selection of Star Wars planets.
But in the original version, there was only one route – an ill-fated voyage to the forest moon of Endor. The pilot of the ship was RX-24, also known as Rex! Voiced by Paul Reubens, Rex is still visible in the queue for Star Tours…
Plus, he now has a gig working in Oga’s Cantina on Batuu as a DJ. You know, now that we think about it, Marvel Blog True Believers, that’s probably a better career path for him, anyway!
