Was the WandaVision DVD Set Planned All Along?
First appearing in 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron, the super-powered former ally of Ultron, Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) first met the being that would become her future husband, the synthezoid artificial intelligence named “Vision” (Paul Bettany), who’s programming is a combination of Ultron, Jarvis, and his personal experiences. And yet, this unusual couple has captured the imagination of audiences around the globe who relate to their tragic tale.
However, despite multiple blockbuster films making it clear that Wanda and Vision’s bond was unbreakable, Marvel fans were still missing many key elements of the couple’s dynamic romance. So at the beginning of 2021, Marvel Studios and Disney+ teamed up to bring fans the first live-action Marvel Cinematic Universe series for the streaming platform, WandaVision!
Now, it appears that fans of WandaVision (as well as the other Marvel Studios Disney+ shows) can get a copy of the Emmy-nominated and Harvey Award-winning series on DVD!
The DVD That Maybe Was…
This announcement comes as a surprise to WandaVision fans. Although several of the shows set in the MCU through its streaming platform have been released on DVD, including The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (also available on DVD) and Loki, the studio reportedly had no plans to release the live-action MCU series to DVD/Blue-Ray.
On June 21st, 2021, Movieweb.com posted a report stating that Disney had “no plans” to release the live-action MCU series on Blue-Ray or 4K Ultra HD (although the website noted that the initial announcement did come with a “never say never caveat”). This sentiment was expressed in another interview with Marvel Head-Boss-in-Charge Kevin Feige stating, “The truth is, I don’t know. That’s a good question for which I will look for the answer. I don’t know.”
Make It So!
Luckily, for physical media lovers, like myself, it seems as if Feige’s caveat may have won out over the initial announcement and the series has been released on DVD, or else we have some pretty great bootlegs on our hands, Marvel Blog True Believers! Either way, I ordered myself the three disc set of WandaVision on Amazon, which is currently retailing at $29.00, and am curious to see what product is coming to my door in a couple of days!
If this is a bootleg (and kind of convinced it is based on the product reviews), maybe it will push Disney+ and Marvel to release the series for themselves with all of the special features (something I would gladly buy twice). What do you think, Marvel Blog True Believers?
