Black Panther 2 Shuts Down After Letitia Wright Injury
In an article posted to The Hollywood Reporter website on Friday, November 5th, 2021, it was announced that Black Panther 2: Wakanda Forever was shutting down production as lead actor Letitia Wright recovers from a previously-reported on-set injury.
Black Panther 2
Back in August 2021, it was reported by Entertainment Weekly that Wright had suffered from an on-set injury while filming the upcoming sequel.
According to the article from THR, Wright was injured while shooting a sequence on-location near Boston, Massachusetts. But soon after being injured, she left for London, where she has been since.
In the meantime, director Ryan Coogler has been shooting scenes that don’t include Shuri from the Marvel Studios production location in Atlanta, Georgia.
Hopefully, the manifold wonders of modern medical science will ensure that Wright’s recovery is as swift and healthy as possible!
Wakanda Forever
Wright is stepping into the starring role for the franchise in the wake of the death of Chadwick Boseman, who played the King of Wakanda, T’Challa.
It is not currently clear how the sequel will move forward following the tragedy, or precisely how Wright’s character, T’Challa’s younger sister Shuri, will play a role in the proceedings. However, Black Panther co-star Lupita Nyong’o says the sequel feels “emotionally correct.”
In Theaters November 2022
While Black Panther: Wakanda Forever was one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase Four movies to be pushed back a few weeks ago, so far, Wright’s recovery does not seem to have delayed it further than the previously announced November 2022.
