Countdown: Hawkeye’s Suspenseful First Appearance!
We just can’t wait until the first two episodes of Hawkeye arrive on Disney+ on Wednesday, November 24th, 2021, Marvel Blog True Believers! In the meantime, we’re keeping ourselves occupied with all things Hawkeye leading up to the release of the new series. In addition to returning to the 2012 series that looks to have heavily inspired the show, we’re also going to look at Hawkeye’s first appearance!
Hawkeye’s First Appearance
The first issue to feature Clint Barton as Hawkeye was Tales of Suspense (1964) #57 by Stan Lee, Don Heck, and S. Rosen! This was an Iron Man-centric story that featured Barton in a supporting role.
Interestingly, many of the aspects of the present day Hawkeye were already here! The connection to Black Widow (although in the comic it is romantic rather than platonic), the trick arrows (which we know will appear in the show), and the propensity to be considered the bad guy even when he isn’t are all already here!
Another interesting thing about the trick arrows that Barton uses in this issue: he makes note of the fact that Black Widow helped him make one of them. I guess one of the most consistent things about Clint is that he relies on his friends to give him some weird tech!
