Like the other tie-in books in the ongoing Darkhold event, this one-shot tells a horror story starring one of the familiar heroes in the Marvel universe. One of the reasons that this event has been so enjoyable is that each issue has spotlighted a different kind of horror, and that has made for a varied and engaging event.
For example, Darkhold: Iron Man #1 was all about the body horror elements of the genre.

Meanwhile, the more recently released Darkhold: The Wasp #1, we got a story that emphasized the horror of being trapped in an abusive relationship.
Darkhold: Black Bolt #1 is yet another kind of horror… the kind that sticks with you! Have you ever read a horror story that you kept thinking about after the fact? Then you have some idea of what’s in store for you when you finish this issue: a lingering sense of unease as you try and figure out just what was happening at the conclusion of the story!
