Origins Flashback with Venom: Lethal Protector
In an article posted to the official Marvel website on Monday, December 14th, 2021, it was revealed that we’ll be seeing a new series starring Venom from Marvel Comics in March of 2022… but the really exciting part is the fact that Venom’s co-creator, David Michelinie, will be returning to the world of symbiotes in Venom: Lethal Protector!
Venom: Lethal Protector
Venom was co-created by Michelinie and Todd McFarlane. The character’s first full appearance took place in The Amazing Spider-Man #300 by Michelinie, McFarlane, Rick Parker, and Bob Sharen.
Venom: Lethal Protector will be a five-issue limited series and will feature interior artwork by Ivan Fiorelli and a main cover by Paulo Siqueira.
“Getting to do a multi-issue story with the original Venom was like sitting down to dinner with an old friend – who wants to eat your brain for dessert,” said Michelinie in a quote included with the official Marvel website announcement.
The story will take place early in Venom’s personal history, even before Carnage was born, but after he had joined with down-on-his-luck reporter Eddie Brock. While the story will follow in the vein of titles like X-Men Legends, which explore the unrevealed past of certain Marvel Comics characters, the article also promises that Venom: Letha Protector will hint at what’s next for Venom in the larger Marvel universe.
Arriving in March 2022
Venom: Lethal Protector #1 is scheduled to arrive at your Local Comic Shop on March 23rd, 2021. Will you be picking up a copy when it is released? What do you think of this return to Venom’s earliest days? Do you have a favorite Venom story?
