‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Now Has 3rd Best Domestic Box Office Opening Ever!
The movie event of the year has now proven to be one of the most successful films of all time as Spider-Man: No Way Home now has the 3rd best domestic box office opening ever.
With the pandemic year, and the post-pandemic year, providing an incredible weight for theaters and the movie industry to bear, many could not have foreseen an outing such as this in the midst of the recovery; yet, here we are.
Deadline has reported that the third film in Peter Parkers MCU saga is ending its opening weekend at $253 Million.
This solidifies that Spider-Man: No Way Home now has the 3rd best domestic box office opening ever, but that isn’t where the accolades end for the film.
Not only did the film also surpass the monstrous opening weekend of Star Wars The Force Awakens– the heralded return of one of movie history’s most beloved franchsie- but it also is now Sony’s highest opening weekend ever.
With a day left in the weekend, there is still time for Spider-Man: No Way Home to continue etching its name into record books, many have a feeling it could make its way to 2nd on the list of best domestic box office openings.
To achieve such a feat, the film would have to surpass the $257 Million opening weekend by Avengers: Infinity War; the massive precursor to the final installment of the MCU’s Infinity Saga, and easily one of Marvels biggest movies to date.
There are many who will point to Marvel Studios unchallenged success at the box office as the reasoning as to why the film was destined to succeed financially; but Eternals proved this not to be the case, as Spider-Man: No Way Home has already almost doubled the opening box office of that film.
The film has benefitted greatly from nearly a year of fan theories and expectations for the anticipated arrival of Spider-Man: No Way Home.
The masterclass in the character of Peter Parker that the movie ended up being, has found its reward in the audience’s commitment to see the film despite the times were in.
