‘Eternals’ Director Comments on the Films Mixed Reviews
One of the most divisive entries into the MCU debut to fans with surprising criticism from various film critics and some fans; Chloe Zhao, Eternals director, comments on the films mixed reviews.
2021 concluded with one of its biggest films of all time, as Spider-Man: No Way Home became the second biggest MCU entry in Marvel’s history.
The year started with one of Marvel’s most underappreciated films of all time, Black Widow; which bore its own fair share of controversy surrounding its distribution model and relationship with long-time Marvel collaborator Scarlett Johansson.
Shang-Chi followed suit and gave fans what was maybe the best MCU debut of 2021, and a story that established Simu Liu as a vital part of the Marvel Universe moving forward.
With all of the various Disney+ series receiving overwhelmingly positive reviews, the first project to crash the party was the Chloe Zhao headed Eternals.
Lauded for its stunning visual storytelling, Eternals was criticized for its clunky narrative that was seemingly weighted down by its attempted focus on so many different characters at once.
This is the first time that the Eternals director comments on the films mixed reviews; to this point, Zhao has refrained from stating anything publicly regarding the plethora of negative reception as the Eternals director comments on the film’s mixed reviews.
The Academy Awards winning director first got involved regarding a post by the Rotten Tomatoes Instagram account that asked fans to weigh in on whether or not Eternals deserved to be ranked at the bottom of the best-reviewed Marvel Films list.

The post noted that Eternals currently holds a 47% on Rotten Tomatoes, which prompted the director to ask the audience for their own opinions on the film ranking.
Zhao writes, “Does it…?” while asking fans to tune into the debate, and encouraging them to watch Eternals when it makes its Disney+ debut on January 12th.
Eternals was a film with immense criticism, and divisiveness, it is interesting to imagine how time will treat this unforgettable MCU entry.
