Morbius Release Delayed Until April 2022
Late yesterday, Sony Pictures announced Morbius has been delayed until April 1, 2022. The film had – most recently – been scheduled for release in U.S. theaters on January 28, 2022.
Morbius has been riddled with postponements and delays. Originally, it was scheduled for release on July 31, 2020. The long-anticipated film has been through several iterations of delays since then, all due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Which Universe Is Morbius a Part Of?
Jared Leto stars in Morbius as the anti-hero, Dr. Michael Morbius. A brilliant scientist, he tries to save his own life from a rare blood disease with vampire bat DNA. However, that mutates the good doctor into a vampire by night. As a result, Dr. Morbius struggles between a lust for blood and an innate desire to do good.
Fans are eager to figure out where Morbius exists… His origin story lies in the Marvel Comics cannon. However, is his film a part of Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) or will his story lie solely in the Sony Pictures Universe?
Morbius’ second trailer set the rumor mill ablaze with suspicions. The trailer made mention of Venom, Oscorp Tower, The Daily Bugle and even showed Spider-Man graffiti. Even more intruiging to fans was the appearance of Michael Keaton’s Vulture, a character from Spider-Man: Homecoming.
What Does This Mean for Future Films?
Currently, Spider-Man: No Way Home continues to crush records, boasting epic ticket sales.
That said, film chains are concerned the rapidly spreading Omnicrom variant of COVID-19 will impact how comfortable moviegoers are going to theaters in the near future.
We’ll have to wait a little bit longer for the story of Morbius, true believers. Do you think it will be worth the (long) wait?
