REVIEW: Another Turn Around the Clock in Kang the Conqueror #5
In Kang the Conqueror #5 by Jackson Lanzing, Collin Kelly, Carlos Magno, Espen Grundetjern, and Joe Caramagna, with a main cover by Mike del Mundo, we get an ending that takes us back to the start… and the beginning and the end are Kang!
Kang the Conqueror #5
First and foremost, this issue features more outstanding art, just like every issue in this series.
As Kang traverses further and further into the tangled timelines he’s woven around himself, the artwork got more complicated in concert, created a very engaging blend of aesthetic and story
I also enjoyed the page that showed Kang bouncing from one time to the next, having really horrible run-ins with Ravonna all the way across the multiverse. This is, really, a very messed up story, but I can’t help but hope that it’s something like what’s in store for us on the next season of Loki, especially now that the on-screen Ravonna has escaped into the timeline herself.
One of the things I really liked about this Kang the Conqueror #5 is the way it subverted your expectations regarding what transpired in the first issue, bringing the events back around and making you look at them in a surprising new light. What makes this even more impressive is that you kind of expected them to bring elements from this story back around, and yet it manages to be surprising nevertheless!
Overall, this was a great ending to the five-issue Kang the Conqueror series, and it makes me very eager to read Timeless #1. Stay tuned for that review, Marvel Blog True Believers!
