The series will reportedly serve as the continuation of the widely beloved X-Men animated series, which ran from September 1992, until October 1997.
The series was a part of Marvel’s Animated universe of the 1990s, featuring everything from Spider-Man and the Fantastic Four to Iron Man and Silver Surfer.
For a lot of adults, these animated series were their first exposure to these larger-than-life Marvel characters during their childhoods, with many absorbing the cartoons before they ever picked up a comic book.
X-Men the animated series was perhaps the most successful and has established itself as one of the most iconic; with its easily accessible take on the incredible team, that never withholds the emotional resonance of its deeper themes.
Cal Dodd was an iconic part of the series, playing Wolverine in 73 of the series 76 episodes, as well as a plethora of the characters appearances from 1994 to 2000 and creating a truly iconic iteration of the character.
Seeing Dodd return to the role he truly originated is a treat for Marvel fans, who can also look forward to much of the original X-Men animated series cast to return for the highly anticipated X-Men ’97.
We can’t wait to see Dodd, and the phenomenal cast, reprise their roles for this brand new telling; and in the words of Wolverine himself, “Welcome Back bub.”
