X-Men ’92 Comic Puts Krakoa in the Nineties
In an article posted to the official Marvel website on Friday, January 14th, 2022, it was announced that a new series, X-Men ‘92: House of XCII, will be arriving at your local comic shop beginning in April 2022. Featuring a creative team that includes Steve Foxe and Salva Espin, this incredible series will reimagine the 90s era of X-Men comics as though the age of Krakoa had begun at that point in Marvel Comics history!
X-Men ‘92: House of XCII
What’s with the name? It’s a joke based on Roman Numerals, Marvel Blog True Believers.
One of the most important storylines for the X-Men in the 2000’s was House of M! In Roman Numerals, “M” means “1000.” So the name House of XCII, when decoded using Roman Numerals in the same way, means House of 92.
As far as House of M itself goes, I have mixed feelings about this storyline, Marvel Blog True Believers. It followed the X-Men as they saw the world remade by the magic of the Scarlet Witch, and concluded with Wanda’s infamous line, “No More Mutants.”
Furthermore, I am concerned about Wanda’s treatment in House of XCII, especially considering what’s transpired with her lately in the panels of The Trial of Magneto, which saw her “redeeming herself” for the events of House of M. Let’s be clear, Marvel Blog True Believers: the people to blame for House of M include Professor X, Magneto, and Quicksilver, not the Scarlet Witch.
However, Foxe is a skilled scribe, having presenting amazing alternate continuities in comics like Spider-Ham: Great Power, No Responsibility, so I’m cautiously optimistic that Wanda will be treated as well here as she was in the recent Darkhold: Omega #1 (review forthcoming, Marvel Blog True Believers)!
