Happy Birthday Marvelous Dove Cameron
Do you know what today’s date, January 15th, means Marvel Blog True Believers? That today is the birthday of Marvelous Dove Cameron, who played the role of Ruby Hale in the fifth season of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. on ABC!
HBD Dove Cameron
Cameron first appeared in the role of Hale on Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. in the eleventh episode of the fifth season, “All the Comforts of Home,” which aired in March 2018.
Hale was the daughter of Brigadier General Hale (Catherine Dent), a high ranking Air Force Officer who became the final surviving leader of the insidious HYDRA! In flashbacks, we learned that Hale had befriended villainous figures like Baron Wolfgang von Strucker (played by Thomas Krestschmann as an adult) and Jasper Sitwell (played by Maximillano Hernández as an adult) while she was studying at HYDRA’s secret school.
In the past, the elder Hale was ordered to birth the new leader of HYDRA by Daniel Whitehall (Reed Diamond)… and Ruby Hale was the genetically engineered result! Ruby was eventually combined with the Gravitonium seen in the first season of S.H.I.E.L.D. via a Particle Infusion Chamber, but… it didn’t go that well for her, causing horrible pain and powers she couldn’t control. She even crushed Strucker’s head like a grape! It was a mess.
Hale isn’t the only Marvel character that Cameron has played. She also voiced the characters of Spider-Gwen (variously known as Gwen Stacy and Ghost-Spider) in the fourth season of Ultimate Spider-Man, which aired from 2016 through 2017.
Cameron also worked with fellow S.H.I.E.L.D. alums Chloe Bennet (Agent Daisy Johnson) and Ming-Na Wen (Agent Melinda May) in 2018’s Marvel Rising: Secret Warriors, in which she played the role of “Police Officer.”
