‘Eternals’ Breaks Disney+ Record With Over 2 Million Views
One of the most divisive films in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe has featured a resurgence amongst fans as Eternals breaks a Disney+ record with over 2 million views during its debut on the streaming service.
A visually stunning narrative on the very nature of humanity, Chloé Zhao‘s Eternals takes MCU fans into the very origin of the universe by telling the story of 10, near-immortal beings sent to protect and defend Earth from an unknowable threat.
Eternals follows the beings of the same name, crafted by the Celestials to protect the evolution of intelligent life on Earth from apex predators seeking to devour them in the form of the Deviants; yet being specifically instructed against intervening in human affairs.
With a dense story that explores 10 different characters, the film saw mixed reviews from fans and critics alike, with many referring to it as one of the worst entries in the MCU to date.
It appears as though there is a new fanbase emerging for the film’s post-theatrical run, however, as Eternals breaks a Disney+ record with over 2 Million views during its debut.
First reported by The Direct, Eternals is now the biggest MCU debut on the streaming service within its first five days of availability for subscribers, surpassing another 2021 Marvel project that stood out as one of its most viewed.
The record was previously held by the incredible Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, which was streamed by 1.8 million people in its first five days of availability on the streaming service; which was a jump from the 1.1 million that streamed Black Widow during its dual release method.
It is interesting to consider the second life Eternals has gained through its Disney+ release, with the film aging brilliantly after its much-maligned theatrical debut.
With its now record-breaking status on Disney+, it should give Kevin Feige and the people at Marvel some added encouragement at the future success of the Eternals franchise.
